Yo Soy US Latino Alternativo by Kike Posada (Playlist)

You've uncovered the ultimate World Class Latin Indie playlist of the season with a thorough and crazy selection of today's best Alternative artists en Español plus some surprises here and there. Undoubtedly, the dominant role of Mexico as a leading creative force in experimental music is not new, but this generation is really breaking a record of productivity with a breed of local born musicians willing to explore beyond the conventional, but also with hundreds of others flocking from different countries in the region, willing to stay and conquer this market with their craft as well. Our US Latino community is also represented by acts from Los Angeles (La Santa Cecilia) Santa Ana (Enjambre), Miami (Elastic Bond) Milwaukee (Kinto Sol) Kansas City (Making Movies). Colombia is also pushing ahead with a diverse approach of World, Rock, Techno, Reggae (Juan Pablo Vega, Nina Rodríguez, Estados Alterados, Oh'laville, Elsa y Elmar, Catalina Avila). Enjoy a plethora of Electro Synth Extravaganza with Bandalos Chinos, Surfistas del Sistema, Dromedarios Mágicos, Technicolor Fabrics and Bengala). Sultry vocals from Juan Son, Zahara, Siddartha, Maria Centeno or Najwa. The Power of Girls with Tessa la, Javiera Mena, Mon Laferte, Elsa y Elmar, Cariño, Silvina Moreno, Lara Pedrosa, Dennise from Hello Seahorse. Folk-Reggae-Electro Hypnotic sounds from Carloncho, who BTW sings in English and he does a great job on Mamá Morada. Peruvian African Roots with Kanaku & La Tigra or Sephardic remembrance with a rendition of El Cabrito by Catalina Avila from Colombia. Venezuela is also in the house with well established names in Indie Rock, all of them in diaspora (Los Mesoneros, Viniloversus, Retrovysor, La Vida Boheme). The Spaniard Conquistadores are led by Vetusta Morla, Cariño, Dorian, Macaco, Novio Caballo and Rayden. Also, can't miss the intellectual, schizo cumbiotic opening by Uruguayan philosophers and monsters of lyrics El Cuarteto De Nos on their new track "Mario Neta", (you get it? Mario- Neta, marioneta, puppet, lol). The retro fever is on with the vintage esthetics running all over the place on videos/ tracks by Little Jesus, Young Tender or Dromedarios Mágicos. We even have an instant classic Johnny Cash styled Norteño Young Troubadour by the name of Ed Maverick that is captivating! And to break the rules (with Alternative attitude) we threw in there a killer video/song by Los Tigres del Norte, kings of Regional Mexican Music, but with that Rolling Stones pose on them that so lovable. This is a recent featured live presentation at Folsom prison playing for the inmates and their families, most of name immigrants. Artists with this kind of swager on them cannot be outside of this playlist. Although these are 90% new songs (2019) we couldn't resist adding some all time favorites from the founding fathers of Latin Indie: Gustavo Cerati (RIP), Babasónicos, Café Tacvba, Fobia and Kinky. Can't miss the Tacuvos playing an acoustic version of "Que No" for the one and only Tiny Desk Concerts Series presented by legendary radio station KCRW. You can dance if you want to, you can leave the world behind with this playlist, but one thing's for sure, you will not stay still or left unmoved by the tremendous amount of creativity and experimentation from these folks. It's too much pleasure contained in just one playlist! Expect more surprises, wonderful covers, and sounds from Cuba, Panamá, Puerto Rico and yes, even Brazil. Thanks for tuning in.
